Students at the new £12 million Djanogly City Academy in Nottingham are benefiting from high performance tapered rigid urethane insulation from market leaders Kingspan Insulation.
Designed by world renowned Foster and Partners, the Academy replaces the Djanogly City Technology College and the former Forest School to provide a 21st Century teaching environment specialising in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for students aged 11-14.
A total of 5,000 square metres of Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM was installed by Advanced Roofing. Tapered insulation provides a light weight, practical and cost effective alternative to timber firings or screed to falls for draining a roof of rainwater.
David Hartshorn of Advanced Roofing said "Having already used Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM on numerous projects, we had no doubt that it was the ideal choice for this project due to the quality and reliability of the product and the impressive U-values it achieves."
Designed for use under fully adhered single-ply waterproofing, the Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM ensures low heat loss through the roof, as well as preventing the build-up of rainwater, which can seriously decrease the life of a flat roof by subjecting the membrane to thermal stress, alkali formation and mould growth.
If correctly applied Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM offers continuous high performance throughout the lifetime of the roof. It is lightweight and easy to install, resistant to water vapour, and unaffected by compression inflicted in the course of normal maintenance. With a thermal conductivity of 0.027 W/m.K, the boards can easily achieve the U-values required for compliance with Building Regulations.
The Kingspan Thermataper range has been designed to prevent the formation of water ponds (the most common cause of failure of flat roofs) by providing effective roof falls for both new and existing flat roofs. Each solution in the range has been specifically developed for use beneath a particular waterproofing membrane.
An independent study by highly respected Quantity Surveyors, Davis, Langdon & Everest, has singled out tapered insulation as the most cost effective water shedding option for warm deck flat roofing applications, yielding savings of up to 21%.
