The addition of Kingspan Thermaroof TR26 LPC/FM roofing insulation contributed to architects Stride Treglown’s efforts in achieving a BREEAM Outstanding rating at design stage for their new offices at Treglown Court in Cardiff.
The 500 m2 building designed to accommodate 50 staff on two floors in an open plan studio arrangement linked by an open-tread staircase was the first office in the UK to gain a BREEAM Outstanding rating, whilst also achieving the highest percentage score, at design stage.
250 m2 of the high performance insulation board was installed beneath a Fatra membrane by roofing contractors Roofbond.
Anthony Walsh, Senior Associate at Stride Treglown said “TR26 was chosen as it is a product that as well as providing excellent thermal performance, also met the specific requirements of the BREEAM Mat 6 credit: Responsible sourcing of insulation.”
The requirements for BREEAM 2008 were met through Kingspan’s certification to BS / I.S. EN ISO 14001: 2004 of both the manufacturing process and the manufacture of the principle polymer components of the Therma range of products, including Thermaroof TR26 LPC/FM. A number of other BREEAM credits can also be achieved through the use of Kingspan products under the latest version of BREEAM (2011); these would fall under Ene 01: Reduction of CO2 emissions, and Mat 04: Insulation.
Kingspan Thermaroof TR26 LPC/FM high performance rigid thermoset insulation, is lightweight, resistant to the passage of water vapour, and has a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/m.K.
Suitable for both new build and refurbishment projects, Kingspan Thermaroof TR26 LPC/FM is fully compatible with most mechanically fixed single-ply waterproofing systems as well as most green roof systems, and its ease of installation makes it ideal for fast track building programmes.
